Why do people choose Hobe Sound when looking for a place to live? It’s a sleepy little town with very few traffic lights nestled between the larger cities of Jupiter and Stuart. If you can’t locate something in Hobe Sound, then everything you could possibly want is within 15 or 20 minutes to the north or the south. Hobe Sound has several local restaurants that serve delicious food – from breakfast diners, to sports bars and fine dining. To the east, at the end of Bridge Road, check out Hobe Sound Public Beach with free parking, bathrooms, outside showers to use after taking a swim and a lifeguard. Take a long (approximately 3 miles) stroll along the beach in near solitude up to the Hobe Sound National Wildlife Refuge. Driving north to the end of Jupiter Island is also an option to get to the Hobe Sound National Wildlife Refuge but parking is not free; locals can purchase an annual pass. Sea turtles love to nest along this stretch of shoreline. It’s also popular with the surfing crowd. It’s a seven-mile walk up the shoreline to the St. Lucie Inlet but nature abounds.
Drive south of Hobe Sound along US 1 to visit Jonathan Dickinson State Park where you can bring an RV or pitch a tent for a more primitive adventure. Traverse the 11,500 acres that is home to 13 ecological habitats by foot, bike, canoe, kayak, horseback or other options. The park is north of Tequesta.
Need a good place to catch a charter fishing boat? Then head to Port Salerno, a small fishing village right next to Stuart for multiple options. Known as a working waterfront, Port Salerno has many delicious restaurants, artist studios and a beautiful bay to explore.
