For avid fishers, Stuart is known as the sailfish capital of the world. Designated the Most Beautiful City of 2008 and available to all, the Downtown area is booming with numerous restaurants, delightful shops and home to the Lyric Theatre, which is on the National Register of Historic Places. Take a stroll along the two-mile Riverwalk, a unique boardwalk for our region, which borders the St. Lucie River providing a great overview of the Downtown community.
Sunday’s are busy with live entertainment and an appealing Green Market. The Ground Floor Farm is an urban farm where curious minds and palettes can go to get fresh food and fresh ideas at kitchen workshops. Drive along Kanner Highway (SR 76) which starts downtown and extends all the way to Lake Okeechobee. You will find a variety of farms, plenty of wetlands and the village of Indiantown, which was established as a trading post by Native American Seminole people. The Seminole Inn is on the National Register of Historic Places and the former Duchess of Windsor (Wallis Warfield Simpson) was the niece of its builder, S. Davies Warfield.
