Home Rooms Re-imagined

When the pandemic hit, I was working on a more traditional newsletter and Part 2 of a series but now that much of the world has taken a pause, I decided to lighten it up a bit. Did the title of this newsletter pique your interest or get you thinking about your high school years?

As people look for more flexibility in their homes, certain areas are being repurposed into multi-functional spaces, here are a few examples to get you thinking creatively about your home.

• A formal Living room can now be referred to as a Gathering room which provides for a more social and inviting use of the space. How often do we even use the formal Living/Dining room for its intended purpose? (I use mine for storage.)
• The Home theater can be expanded into a quiet, productive place to work and for video conferencing away from pets and other household members, an exercise studio or my personal favorite a “night club” where you can hang out with friends virtually for cocktail hour while dancing to Club Quarantine music.
• In urban areas, Terraces or Balconies can become a Performance Venue for entertaining others or attending classical concerts, singing show tunes or even opera.
• Not common in South Florida, but Mudrooms are being redefined as Arrival Zones for versatile uses such as storage, laundry, pantry and pet care.
• The Master Bedroom & Bathroom are losing their antiquated label and it may soon be commonplace to refer to them as part of the “Owner’s Suite”.
